Character AI's filter isn't coming off. Eight adult roleplay sites like it, matched by memory, free messages, voice, group scenes and model choice.
Has Character AI removed its NSFW filter? No. What changed in late 2025 was the other end of the age range. On 25 November, under-18s lost open-ended chat and the site started checking ages. Passing that check gives adults their open-ended chat back. It doesn't give them an adult mode.
The community guidelines still ban sexually explicit content for everyone, and there's no paid tier that switches the filter off. If you've hit the wall halfway through a scene, you're not doing anything wrong. You're just on a site that was never going to follow you there.
Plenty of sites will. The trick is working out which part of Character AI you actually miss, because no single alternative copies all of it.

Character AI does three things well. It has an enormous community library, it makes building a character quick, and the writing is good enough to lose an evening to. The adult alternatives split those strengths between them.

Janitor AI is free, with about 50 messages a day on its own model, and lets you plug in another model through its proxy settings. It's as good as the model you bring. It's also strict about minor-coded characters, which we like.
CraveU pays creators when their bots get used, and it shows in the writing. Guys get their own CraveHim section. There's no voice, and the free tier is more of a demo.

Nomi is built around memory: tell her something in March and she'll bring it up in May. Chat is unfiltered, and the selfies stay tame.
Kindroid is for tinkerers who want to write the backstory and key memories themselves. Unlimited text on its Lite model makes it the most generous free start here.

Luvr AI has a Scenario Builder and challenges, and asks girls, guys or anime before anything else. Its best prices need a six or twelve month commitment, so use the free trial properly first.
Moving a character across
We haven't found a supported way to export a Character AI character into any of these sites. So rebuild from your own words, which is quicker than it sounds if you kept notes.
These sites take the adults-only rule seriously too. Janitor AI permanently bans minor-coded characters and personas, and CrushOn.AI requires characters to be adults and bans real photos of celebrities or people you know.
